🪜 Steps to apply

  1. Complete the online pre-enrollment form on the official portal using your citizenship details.
  2. Choose the booklet type (34 or 66 pages), processing type and collection centre.
  3. Book your appointment slot at the Department of Passport or your District Administration Office.
  4. Pay the fee through the channel shown on your appointment slip and keep the receipt.
  5. Attend the appointment with all original documents for verification and biometrics (photo, fingerprints, signature).
  6. Note your tracking ID and collect the passport from your chosen centre when it is ready.

Tap a step to mark it done. Pre-enrollment is online, but you must appear in person for verification and biometrics — a passport cannot be issued fully online.

🗂️ Documents needed

Adult (first time): original citizenship certificate + photocopy (front and back), National Identity Number (NIN) for applicants aged 16+, printed pre-enrollment form, fee payment receipt, and 2 recent passport-sized photos.

Renewal: all of the above plus your old passport (you will surrender it).

Minor (under 16): birth certificate, both parents' citizenship copies, and parents' consent (plus a court order or death certificate for a single parent where applicable). The child must be present for biometrics.

Lost / damaged: select Replacement on the form and follow the Department's current instructions; never travel on a passport already reported lost.

Validity: 10 years for adults, 5 years for minors. Renew up to 12 months before expiry to avoid travel disruption.

🔒 Private by design: this tool runs 100% in your browser — your checklist is stored only on your device, nothing is uploaded anywhere.

Nepal e-passport application guide

Nepal issues biometric e-passports through the Department of Passports. The process starts with online pre-enrollment, then an in-person appointment for document verification and biometric capture, then collection from the centre you chose.

Fees depend on booklet size, age and where you apply — district offices report lower regular fees than the Department headquarters in Kathmandu, which handles fast-track service. Always confirm the current fee on the official site before paying, and never pay informal agents.
